National Flag

“The Golden Arrowhead”, Guyana's National Flag has FIVE symbolic colors -- GREEN represents the agricultural and forested nature of Guyana, WHITE symbolizes the rivers and water potential of the country, a GOLDEN arrow represents Guyana's mineral wealth, BLACK portrays the endurance that will sustain the forward thrust of the Guyanese people and RED represents the zeal and dynamic nature of nation-building which lies before the young and independent Guyana.

Located just above the equator

Because of Guyana’s location near the equator, it has a tropical climate and is always in the 80’s Fahreheit. There are no seasonal changes (except for the rainy season) and sunrise and sunset are the same all year.

Four main geographical regions make up the country, each with its own unique makeup. There is a coastal plain, a hilly and sandy region in the east, the Rupununi Savannah in the south and the tropical rainforests of interior highlands. Several mountain ranges run through the country and many rivers.

Guyana is divided into 11 regions

Region 1 - Barima/Waini; Region 2 - Pomeroon/Supernaam; Region 3 - Essequibo Islands/West Demerara; Region 4 - Demerara/Mahaica; Region 5 - Mahaica/Berbice; Region 6 - East Berbice/Corentyne; Region 7 - Cuyuni/Mazaruni; Region 8 - Potaro/Siparuni; Region 9 - Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo; Region 10 - Upper Demerara/Upper Berbice.

Guyana is considered a Caribbean country

Even though it is on the South American continent, Guyana is home to CariCom (the Caribbean Community). It is like a United Nations for 15 Caribbean nations and dependencies.
